The West Big Data Innovation Hub, one of four regional hubs funded by the National Science Foundation, includes contributors and data enthusiasts from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and a global network of partners.

The West Hub hosted the virtual Data-Driven Water Systems Solutions for Communities session at World Water Week on August 21. The event explored the intersections of AI-centric data, analysis, and water research and management as it relates to community-driven actions for equitable water solutions. View the recording here.

West Hub Partner CSU LA Announces New Smart Cities Certificate By Kimberly Mann Bruch, SDSC Communications

The term “Smart City” describes using electronic methods to collect specific data to increase operational efficiency to solve city problems. The California State University in Los Angeles (Cal State LA) has recently announced a new professional education program focused on hands-on skills for people interested in working together on Smart Cities. Specifically, the certificate focuses on growing a workforce that can effectively assist with Los Angeles’ rising problems related to housing, education, employment, transportation, accessibility, social services, crime, aging population, immigration and climate change.

The Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS)

The Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) team will meet at the University of Washington eScience Institute Data Science Studio April 10-11 to discuss project development and coordination.
